About Moorpark

Conveniently located in the southeastern part of Ventura County, just 50 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, Moorpark is the natural choice for residency and to raise a family. Moorpark is recognized for having the lowest number of serious crimes committed in Ventura County and is one of the safest cities of its size in the United States. The District encompasses six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, one continuation school, and the high school at Moorpark College. Moorpark is well known for its quality education. The Academic Decathlon Team received the National Championship Title in 1999, 2003, 2008, and 2009.

The Burbank, Van Nuys, and Oxnard commuter airports are all located within 35 miles of Moorpark. Los Angeles International Airport is only 50 miles away. The Southern Pacific and AMTRAK rail systems provide convenient freight and passenger service. The city has its own Metrolink Station, which operates Monday through Friday on all lines and makes regular stops from Oxnard to Los Angeles Union Station.

The city owns its own bus fleet and contracts for bus service and maintenance. Moorpark City Transit operates from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday along a 15-mile fixed-route. In addition, the city offers para-transit service to eligible disabled riders in accordance with provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and seniors age 65 and older.

 

Scenic Environment

Moorpark is known for its citrus groves and rolling hills. Moorpark has 19 parks, from neighborhood communal areas with picnic pavilions to civic centers with recreation classes to large wilderness areas. Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park features more than 12 miles of trails in 3,000 acres of open grasslands and forest areas perfect for exploring by foot, mountain bike and horseback. For a relaxing walk, the Broadway and Rustic Canyon trails are the easiest to follow, featuring approximately two and a half miles of relatively flat terrain and periodic shade. Equestrians also will find these trails to be the most appealing for leisurely rides, and the Broadway park entrance offers a large parking lot perfect for horse trailers.  From walking through Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park to watching the animal show at Underwood Family Farms, Moorpark offers a variety of opportunities for weekend residents and visitors to relax and explore this scenic Southern California city.

If you venture out between the hours of 6am and 8am, you would most certainly be greeted by a smiling neighbor enjoying the fresh morning air. Moorpark has 19 parks, all with a variety of amenities. Park hours for unlit facilities are from 6:00 a.m. to sunset. Lit facilities are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The City's Dog Park is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST, and 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. DST. The City's Skatepark is open from 10:00 a.m. to sunset on school days, and 8:00 a.m. to sunset on all other days.

FUN FACT

Moorpark was founded in 1900. The town grew from just over 4,000 citizens in 1980 to over 25,000 by 1990. As of 2006, Moorpark was one of the fastest-growing cities in Ventura County.
