The community contains two major new residential areas, Rancho Conejo Village (built on the site of the former Rancho Conejo Airport, where portions of the film It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World were filmed) and Dos Vientos Ranch. The first planned community in Newbury Park was Casa Conejo, located in a roughly square-shaped unincorporated area, and it is the only remaining part of Newbury Park not governed by the City of Thousand Oaks.

About Lake Sherwood

Lake Sherwood is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in the Santa Monica Mountains, in Ventura County, California overlooking the Lake Sherwood reservoir. Home to approximately 660 residences this ultra-lux private community consists of a guard-gated golf-club community, 3 electronic-gated communities, and lake-view homes along Lake Sherwood Drive. The area is almost completely residential, most residents using neighboring Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, or Agoura Hills for their commercial needs. Lake Sherwood is served by the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Students attend Westlake Elementary, Colina Middle School, and Westlake High School. If serenity and beautiful vistas is what you’re looking for, Lake Sherwood could be the perfect destination for you!

FUN FACTS

Lake Sherwood has a surprisingly lengthy history with the film industry, which is understandable given the beautiful location of this community in Southern California. Before Lake Sherwood was ever developed into a community consisting of hundreds of homes and a couple of golf clubs, it was the setting for a large selection of movies and television shows, the first of which was the 1922 Robin Hood film that starred Douglas Fairbanks. The area surrounding the lake was transformed for a short period of time into the royal Sherwood Forest, a famous location in England that was associated with the legend of Robin Hood. The name of Lake Sherwood was chosen because of its link to the film.

Lake Sherwood is also the largest man made lake in California.
